The Best Athens Hotel With A Rooftop Pool

If you’re planning a trip to Athens this summer, you might find that you crave a little respite from the heat in the Greek capital between seeing the major sights.

I strongly recommend booking a hotel in Athens that has a pool, so you can cool off when you need to.

Couple at rooftop pool in Athens

We visited Athens for two days in May, when peak tourist season hadn’t yet commenced but we definitely felt the need to escape the crowds and revive ourselves now and then!

Luckily, we were staying at a fabulous hotel in Athens that made it easy for us to break up the sightseeing with moments of rest.

Review of Lighthouse Athens

Lighthouse Athens is a great option for style-conscious travellers. This Jet2 City Breaks hotel has a very Instagram-friendly rooftop pool, and is located centrally just a ten minute walk from Syntagma Square, which many of Athens’ top attractions are clustered around.

With nine floors and 199 rooms, its opulent design elements give the hotel an air of contemporary cool that avoids being at all pretentious. It’s a great base for exploring all the best places to visit in Athens.

The hotel lobby sets the tone for your stay. We were greeted with glasses of prosecco and enjoyed them at one of the chic seating areas.

We stayed in one of the ‘Cosy’ rooms. Though small, it had everything we needed for a relaxing stay including fluffy robes, a mini-fridge, Nespresso coffee machine and balcony overlooking the fountains in Omonia Square.

The colour palette is dark blues and greens with baroque touches of gold.

The rooftop pool and bar

While there’s no shortage of rooftop bars in Athens, the drinks hit different when you only have to descend the stairs or lift to get to your hotel room!

The rooftop bar at Lighthouse Athens is opening soon and is set to be a real place to be seen. With 360 views of the urban jungle and beyond to the Acropolis, it feels like a bit of a hidden gem in the city.

As hotel guests, it was great to be able to enjoy the views without having to deal with the throngs of tourists at other rooftop bars in Athens.

The plunge pool is the other focal point of the hotel rooftop. It’s large enough for a proper swim and there are even hot tubs! Plus, lots of comfortable seating.

The green and white stripes give the deck a Miami vibe.

Breakfast at Lighthouse Athens

Besides the design, the best thing about staying at Lighthouse Athens in my opinion was the fact that breakfast is served until 12pm.

If you’ve been out all night sampling Athens’ many fantastic cocktail bars, you don’t have to choose between food or a lie in! Seriously, other hotels need to take note.

The breakfast room on the first floor has more of the same eclectic style, with a glass wall overlooking the fountains.

You can choose to eat your breakfast outside on the balcony that runs the length of the room, if you prefer.

Food-wise, there’s plenty of choice. There’s a very well-stocked salad bar with more niche offerings like olive tapenade and baba ganoush, plus a live cooking station for pancakes and omelettes.

There’s a range of hot dishes as well as a comprehensive bakery station, freshly squeezes juices and of course, Greek yoghurt with all the DIY toppings.

And if you want to get your day off to a boujee start, you’ll find all of the ingredients for a Bloody Mary or a Mimosa laid out for you.

I could happily have wiled away the entire morning sipping mimosas and nibbling on the buffet, but we had a city to see…

Other facilities at Lighthouse Athens

The hotel has a spa but unfortunately we didn’t get a chance to experience it. The treatment menu looked reasonably priced.

There’s also a well-equipped gym on the first floor. I did around 20,000 steps per day in Athens so there was no need for me to venture into the gym, thank you very much!

The hotel has plans to open a nightclub on the ground floor with capacity for 200 people, which will make Lighthouse an even better place to stay for party animals.

Pin this for later

We were so impressed with Lighthouse Athens that I had a look at Brown Hotels’ other properties and will definitely try to stay in another location if we find ourselves there on our future travels.
