Sharjah: According to news reports, it has been confirmed that a new attraction has opened in Sharjah for the locals and visitors around the region. A newly developed water reservoir along with a lake has been opened for the general public here in Sharjah on March 30, 2024. The lake body is named Al Hefaiyah and is situated around the Sharjah-Kalba Road and at the end of the Al Hiyar Tunnel in Sharjah. Deemed as one of the best upcoming urbanization projects in Sharjah, this lake is also a tourist marvel for individuals coming to visit the location.
Tourists and visitors can also check the 3.17 km long double roads situated on both sides of the lake, which is a scenic location for exciting strolls along with a 620 square meter kid’s play area around the location. During the start of the month, another attraction was opened called the hanging gardens, which have over 1,00,000 plants and trees along a 1.6 million square-meter coverage area with trees extending to 281 meters above ground level.
The lake inauguration ceremony was concluded by the emperors and ruling monarchs of the country, which included Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, along with Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, and Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah.
The lake covers an outstanding coverage area of 1,32,000 square meters and was created using modern technological advances. The lake is also fitted with pipes and filters to accumulate excess water, store rainwater, and process it in other areas around the valley. The lake has a water capacity of 155 million gallons and a maximum depth of 4 meters. A 3.2-kilometer-long water channel is developed here to send water from the low-lying areas to the lake above the mountain. The lake is also connected with three barriers and filters to restrict the water flowing from the valley here and reduce the formation of sediments and contaminants in the water body. A mountain trail can also be checked around the destination, which extends up to 11.7 km and has numerous pathways with distinct levels of difficulty. Some of the important trails available at the location include the Al Hefaiyah Lake Trail, the Southern Al Friesh Mountain Trail, the Eastern Mountain Trail, the Al Friesh Lake Trail, and the Northern Al Friesh Mountain Trail.
The lake also houses a mosque, which was unveiled by the crown ruler here and is termed the Al Hefaiyah mosque. The opening inauguration of the Al Hefaiyah mosque also allowed pilgrims and locals to participate in the Maghrib prayers at the location here.
The mosque covers an astounding 852 square meters of complex and was created using the Fatimid style with geometric patterns and flowers along the architecture. The beautiful location also houses a 36-meter elevated minaret, an outdoor courtyard accommodating 2,040 worshippers, and an inner women’s prayer hall that can hold around 110 worshippers along the location. An Islamic library section, along with the legal proceedings and norms, can also be checked around the destination in Sharjah. Restrooms and other important facilities are also available for visitors around the mosque location here in Sharjah.
The Al Hefaiyah Lake area also holds the Al Hefaiyah Rest House, which covers around 500 square meters with a mountain and lake view around. The Hanging Gardens can also be checked at one end, with an 8,500-square-meter play area for kids and a vegetative area on the other end.
