Camping World To Debut First Self-Driving RV

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CHICAGO, Illinois – Citing months of arduous R&D painstakingly hidden from the public, this morning Camping World announced plans to unveil the world’s first fully autonomous self-driving RV at the next Ultimate RV Show in Myrtle Beach, SC this May.

The Class A motorhome, affectionately nicknamed MARC (Mobile Autonomous Recreational Camper), does not require a driver and promises to deliver campers from point A to point B while they relax, rejuvenate, and plan activities for their next destination.

“It’s a big deal,“ said Camping World representative Chris Young, who spoke at a press event this morning. “It’s the robot RV everyone has been asking for,” he added.

Equipped with the latest self-driving technology, including over 25 exterior cameras and state-of-the-art video processing and recognition software, the RV’s front storage compartment has been converted into a “data processing center” to deliver “highway-safe and campground-ready” autonomy.

In addition, Camping World praises the motorhome’s self-parking capability, which includes the ability to hook up and tow a dinghy without the owner’s intervention. It also features an automated waste removal system and voice-command navigational aptitude that responds to commands like “Find a better view” or “Avoid those crowds” when approaching potential campsites.

In preparation for the announcement and the RV’s forthcoming debut, a select number of veteran Class A RVers were chosen to test the self-driving RV, including Peter and Barbara Betey. After a week in the autonomous vehicle, the couple of twenty-two years praised the RV’s seeming “can-do attitude,” though they were quick to add that a strange sense of boredom marked the week-long test drive.

“We literally have nothing to do,” Barbara said, citing the autonomous RV, their digital trip planner, a Bluetooth-enabled travel-audio companion, four campground reservation apps, a GPS trail-finder, and their two augmented reality headsets featuring simulated “bug-less hiking.”

Keep your eye out for the official debut of this groundbreaking achievement at the Ultimate RV Show this May in Myrtle Beach, SC.

And happy 1st of April everybody…
