Looking for fun days out with the kids this February half term? With some regional attractions still closed for the winter this can be a challenge. But fear not. I’ve got some half term holiday activities for you from around England. Whether you are looking for fresh air or things to do on rainy days hopefully there’s some thing here for you.

All of these events and activities happen throughout half term unless otherwise stated in the listing. Half term holiday dates vary in some parts of the UK.

Family activities across England in February

Here’s some events that you can find happening around England in February and the half term holidays:

A brand new Zog Trail inspired by the books by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler opened at selected Forestry England sites at the end of January. Now is a great time to experience it.

The interactive trail boards are accompanied by activity sheets and new Zog app. Download both from the Forestry England website.

You can also buy an activity pack for £4 on site.

Things to do in February half term in Birmingham 

Here’s what’s on in and around Birmingham:

The Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show, NEC

Get ready for outdoor family adventures in 2022 by visiting the Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show.

This huge exhibition bringing together dozens of holiday companies is also a fun day out with kids, who get in for free!

The Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show takes place from 21 to 26 February 2022. Find out more and buy tickets on the show website. Don’t forget that under 16s go FREE!

Half term in Bristol

Here’s some half term treats to check out in Bristol:

Bristol Light Festival

This year’s festival is bigger and longer running that before with city centre spaces lit up with a series of installations from local and internationally renowned artists.

There are several light trails routes from Cabot Circus to Park Street. The festival takes place from 3 to 12 February 2023 and is free to explore.

Half term in Buckinghamshire

Here’s some fun things to do in Buckinghamshire:

Bletchley Park

The former top-secret home of Britain’s World War Two Codebreakers has a packed calendar this February half-term.

There will be codebreaking games, challenges and craft sessions for children, in the very place where some of the most secret codes and cyphers of WW2 were broken.

Talks and tours are also available to discover more about the people behind the machines that helped break the Enigma cipher at Bletchley Park.

Things to do in February half term in Cornwall

Here’s some of the top things to do in Cornwall this half term:

Eden Project is offering free entry for all children aged 16 or under as part of our February half-term programme. Every adult visitor can bring one child for free!

There will also be Tom Gates drawing workshops and you can book your last chance to whoosh around the Eden ice skating rink this season.

Ice skating sessions cost extra and must be booked in advance. There is an additional charge of 50p to attend a Tom Gates drawing workshop and those wishing to take part must book their space in advance.

Fun days out during February half term in Devon

Here’s some of what’s on in Devon this February and half term:

Gaia at Exeter Cathedral

See the World in Exeter this month when Luke Jerram’s famous installation, Gaia, visits the Cathedral from 1 to 27 February 2023. 

If you saw Museum of the Moon when it visited Devon last Spring you’ll have an idea of what you can expect – a huge globe floating in the nave.

Gaia features high-resolution NASA imagery of Earth’s surface and specially-composed surround sound by BAFTA award-winning composer, Dan Jones.

Fun days out during February half term in Hampshire

Here’s some places to visit in Hampshire this February half term:

Zero Degrees at Winchester Science Centre

Step inside a wintry wonderland and experience the breath-taking colours of the Northern Lights at Winchester Science Centre this half term.

For a limited time each day, experience the mesmerising greens, blues and purples of the Northern Lights in the Planetarium.

Zero Degrees also includes live sciences demonstrations and hands on experiments all to do with the wintry world.

Things to do during half term in the Isle of Wight

Here’s whats’ on in the Isle of Wight this February:

Isle of Wight Story Festival

IWStoryfestival is an three day celebration of books and drama for families including appearances by authors, illustrators and performers, as well as children’s activities.

The festival takes place between 16 and 18 February 2023. There is a small entrance fee for some sessions.

Things to do during half term in Kent

Here’s some fun places to visit in Kent this February:

Leeds Castle, Maidstone

Leeds Castle - fun days out February half term UK

Become a first-class junior explorer this half term on the grounds of Leeds Castle in Kent.

Pick up an activity book and hunt for the special clues and hints in order to complete the challenge. Those who complete the adventure will be rewarded with a chocolate prize at the end.

Don’t forget to visit the Falconry Centre and let off some steam in the yew-tree maze and grotto. 

Admission tickets provide unlimited access for 12 months from the date of purchase. More information is available on the Leeds Castle website.

What’s on in Lincoln this half term

Here’s where to entertain the kids this half term in Lincoln:

Spectacle of Light at Belvoir Castle

This breathtaking walk through light, colour and fantasy will be brightening the winter evenings with a magical after-dark experience from 27 January to 19 February 2023.

This will also be the first time the gardens have been opened to the public during early Spring, as snowdrops carpet the woodland floor.

The trail is open each evening with entry time slots from 5.30pm onwards.

Spring Bulb Pageant at ​Doddington Hall

See the gardens of Doddington Hall come alive with winter flowering plants this month.

Expect to see snowdrops and winter aconites, Cyclamen coum, and Crocus tommasinianus.

The gardens will be open for the Spring Bulb Pageant Wednesdays and Sundays only from 5 February to 29 March.

Lambing Live at Rand Park  

Tame livestock lambs come running towards the farmer in their grass field on a sunny day.

Rand Farm Park is hosting its living lambing sessions again this Spring.

During the half-term week, the team will be expecting their main flock of ewes from the farm to lamb. 

Visitors will also be able to bottle feed the lambs daily. Other activities available include tractor rides, indoor soft play and meeting the other animals on the farm.

Wondering what’s on in London this half term? Here’s what I’ve spotted:

Imagine Children’s Festival, Southbank Centre

Now in its 20th year, the Southbank Centre’s Imagine Children’s Festival brings together the best in children’s theatre, comedy, hands-on activities, music, and immersive experiences.

There are more than 100 events packed into the 11 day event and 50 percent of the festival is completely free to attend.

This year the festival will see events from the likes of acclaimed street artist STIK, Cressida Cowell (How To Train Your Dragon), Michael Rosen (We’re Going on A Bear Hunt), Guinness World Record Holder DJ Archie, Cbeebies’ YolanDa’s Band Jam, balletLORENT, Aurora Orchestra and Beeja Dance Company. 

The Imagine Children’s Festival takes place from 8 to 18 February in 2023.

Family events at Shakespeare’s Globe

Things to do in Manchester during February half term

Here’s some fun things to do in Manchester this half term:

Manchester Science and Industry Museum

From 11 to Sunday 26 February, families can find plenty of science-filled fun and discovery at the free to visit Manchester Science and Industry Museum.

Explore a whole host of noisy experiments as well seeing the science of sound at The Noisy Show, a brand-new interactive show.

Fun days out during half term in Wiltshire

Here’s a great day out in Wiltshire this half term:

Creative Clay workshops at Stonehenge, Amesbury

Travel back in time with Stonehenge’s historical pottery expert and see how the fantastical Japanese ‘Flame Pots’ were made. You might even get to have a go at making your own mini ‘Dogu’ (a clay figurine) to take home.

It’s recommended to boo your visit to Stonehenge in advance.

February’s Dark Skies Festival in the International Dark Sky Reserves of the North York Moors and Yorkshire Dales National Parks is a series of one events enabling you to pause the button on everyday life and let the night sky soothe your soul.

From 10 February to 26 February 2023 there will be night runs, canoeing and night navigation, astrophotography workshops, stargazing safaris, children’s daytime trails, art workshops and mindful experiences.

Live science at Eureka!, Halifax

Eureka Museum Halifax - short break in Yorkshire

Visit Eureka! The National Children’s Museum for live shows and interactive experiments during half term. We visited during one October half term and loved the hands-on science demonstrations.

The museum is incredible for children with role play areas, kid-friendly exhibits and plenty of educational play.

This half term is the last chance to see the Eco Street exhibition. Learn about up-to-date and sustainable forms of transport, as well as the role engineering plays in this and the eco-friendly things we can do as individuals and communities to help the environment.

Make sure you put aside a whole day for your visit. But don’t worry if you do run out of time to do everything as you can turn your ticket into an annual pass.
