I do love Christmas events for kids. That’s why you’ll find plenty of them listed here on Tin Box Traveller.

Below I’m pointing you to where to find some favourites like Christmas markets and light trails. Scroll a bit further and I’ve ordered what’s on in 2022 alphabetically by county and city.

It’s never too early to start planning which Christmas events you want to visit this year. Many sell out early, so book now to avoid disappointment.

A 1.2 mile trail of lights will illuminate the grounds of Bolesworth to guide young ‘advent’urers and their families through an enchanted winter wonderland.

There will be a rainbow of floodlit trees, lights that twinkle by the lakeside and sparkling walkways with laser lit bridges.

Father Christmas’ reindeer will be found in the woodland on route and there will be a festive food and drink market at the end so visitors can be ‘stocking’ up with seasonal treats.

Children young and old will be able to visit Father Christmas in his grotto and there will also be a chance to go ice skating, along with an impressive laser and light show display every evening.

Christmas at Dunham Massey

Tickets are on sale now for this popular illuminated trail which is returning for a fifth year to this historic National Trust property.

Look out for the giant glittering deer as you step into a world festooned with seasonal cheer where huge snowflakes create an aerial kaleidoscope over the Gardens and pause for a moment of quiet reflection at the crystal and fire garden, aglow with hundreds of flickering flames.

Tickets sell out fast each year, therefore early booking is advised.

Christmas at Delamere Forest

There will be an after dark, illuminated trail with sparkling tunnels of light, giant baubles and trees drenched in jewel-like colour.

Here’s where you will find the best festive events in Cornwall:

Christmas at the Eden Project

Find plenty of Christmas cheer at Eden Project this winter with illuminations, the annual ice rink and Santa’s Grotto.

The ice rink is open fro 15 November and tickets are on sale now. Tickets for to see Father Christmas go on sale from 1 November 2022.

There’s also the Cornwall Christmas Fair at Eden on 23 and 24 November 2022.

You need to have tickets for the Eden Project as well as event tickets.

Christmas at the Eden Project, St Austell, events take place on selected dates from 15 November 2022.

Here’s a tip for what’s on this Christmas in County Down:

Polar Express is a fun festive occasion with a host of attractions for all the family, including a winter wonderland, story-telling with Mrs Claus and the Polar Express train adventure which will take guests on a magical journey to visit Santa and his elves in their busy workshop as they prepare for their busiest time of the year.

The set-up of the much-loved family event will remain the same, but Hastings Hotels has introduced a number of new health and safety measures including reduced numbers of guests per time slot in line with social distancing and allocated seating on the train.

A stunning new illuminated Christmas trail will bring festive sparkle to Belfast for the first time this year. 

The magical after-dark trail at Hillsborough Castle and Gardens, featuring spectacular lighting and enchanting visitors with classical festive tunes, will transform the estate’s beautifully landscaped grounds. 

Wander through the flickering flames of the fire garden or under the millions of lights of the Christmas Cathedral. Rest a while on the Mistletoe bench and marvel at the illuminating take on the 12 days of Christmas. Don’t forget to look out for Father Christmas.

Poole Christmas Maritime Light Festival

Enter a world of Christmas in Poole this year, with this brand-new FREE Christmas attraction!

Be prepared to be dazzled as thousands of twinkling lights take you on a nautical journey through the town and culminating in the glistening lit-up harbour.

There will be a number of impressive light installations, including a five-metre tall ship, a giant anchor, an impressive 120-metre maritime curtain of lights to give you a bespoke ‘under the sea’ experience.

This enchanting light festival offers much more than just light installations, with plans for funfair rides, a Christmas themed market selling traditional fare, and unique festive food and drinks offerings.

This Christmas, Marwell’s majestic grounds will become twinkling wonderland.

This immersive light extravaganza will use more than 250,000 LED bulbs to create wonderful illuminations, gently glowing displays and spots for reflection.

The after dark Glow Marwell route loops around the front half of the zoo, and all displays have been carefully designed to ensure they don’t disturb our animals.

Christmas at Kew, a much-loved highlight of London’s festive calendar, returns for its ninth year from November.

This year’s trail features a host of new light installations, illuminating Kew Gardens’ UNESCO World Heritage landscape with vibrant bursts of colour and over a million twinkling lights.

New illuminations include shows at the iconic Temperate and Palm Houses, as well as a first-time collaboration with Novak, the innovative video design studio.

My Christmas Orchestral Adventure takes families on a journey through classical music to help Father Christmas find his way around the world and save Christmas.
