Today I want to share my self-guided Primrose Hill walk with you. Locals love this part of north London for its colorful Regency townhouses, beautiful park, and great restaurants and pubs. Primrose Hill is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in London, and it’s a fun place to explore on foot. My walking route will take you around to the best places in the area and let you discover its hidden corners. I’ve included a map, too.
Primrose Hill Walk
From the shops on Regent’s Park Road to the houses in Chalcot Square and the pubs on Gloucester Avenue, Primrose Hill is one of the prettiest places in London.
My favorite thing about this part of the UK capital is its diversity of offerings. From independent shops and restaurants to Victorian terraces and a big park with sweeping views of central London, Primrose Hill has everything I love about the city.
My Primrose Hill walk is the perfect way to get into the area’s local scene, explore the colorful side streets, walk along Regent’s Canal, and discover a fun part of the city.

Primrose Hill Walk Route
My self-guided Primrose Hill walking tour starts at the Chalk Farm tube station. It’s has good public transport links, so you can arrive by the Northern Line of the tube or by local bus, bike, or on foot from other north London areas.
Start this Primrose Hill walk by exiting the station and heading north up Adelaide Road. When you reach Bridge Approach, turn left and stay on it as it becomes Regent’s Park Road. You’ll cross a bridge over the railroad tracks as you go.
After you cross the bridge, turn right on King Henry’s Road. Follow it as it curves around and take in the residential architecture along the way.
When King Henry’s Road splits, veer left and stay on it as it becomes Ainger Road. Walk down this street until you reach Oppidans Road, then turn right. You’ll see more of the area’s residential highlights here.
When Oppidans Road meets Primrose Hill Road, you have two options. If it’s a Saturday, you can turn right on Primrose Hill Road and walk up to the Primrose Hill Food Market.
If not (or if you’re not hungry), you can cross the street and head into Primrose Hill park.
Spend some time walking around the park and make your way to the top for the famous views of central London. When you’re done, continue your Primrose Hill walk by heading down to the corner of Primrose Hill Road and Regent’s Park Road.
Turn left on Regent’s Park Road and walk all the way down it. This is one of the best high streets in London.
There are lots of shops, restaurants, and cafes here, so take your time and stop for a meal, snack, or drink if you want to.
Just before you get to the bridge on Regent’s Park Road, turn right on Gloucester Avenue.
This street will take you past some of the area’s best pubs, most delicious bakeries and delis, and prettiest houses, so make sure to look around as you continue your Primrose Hill walk.
When Gloucester Avenue reaches Regent’s Canal, go down the steps on the left side of the street to get to the towpath. Turn right on the path and walk along the canal, taking in the colorful houses and boats as you go.
When you reach the bridge at Prince Albert Road, head up the steps on your right and turn left to get onto Prince Albert Road. Don’t miss the pretty view from the other side of the bridge or the doors of St Mark’s Church before you continue.
After you pass the church, take a right on St Mark’s Square and keep straight as it becomes Princess Road. You’ll pass more pubs and shops as your Primrose Hill walk takes you down to Chalcot Road.
When you get to Chalcot Road, turn left and walk all the way up to Chalcot Square. You’ll see more of the area’s pretty buildings and local cafes here.
When you reach Chalcot Square, take a loop around it. This place has some of the most colorful buildings in the area, and it’s a treat to see them.
When you’re done walking around, exit Chalcot Square via the western corner and take a left on Chalcot Crescent. Follow it around until it reaches Regent’s Park Road.
Along the way you’ll see more of the pastel houses this area is famous for. You’ll spot the house from the Paddington movies at number 30, too.
When you get to Regent’s Park Road, turn right and take in more views of the park and the pretty houses that line it.
Continue your Primrose Hill walk by taking your first right on Rothwell Street. Here you’ll see terraced houses with colorful doors.
When you reach Chalcot Crescent again, turn left and follow the street, keeping right as it becomes Chalcot Square and then Berkley Road.
When Berkley Road meets Regent’s Park Road, turn right, follow it across the rail bridge, and keep right as it curves towards Haverstock Hill.
Once on Haverstock Hill, turn left to get back to Chalk Farm station. Your self-guided Primrose Hill walk ends here, but you can stay in the area to explore places like Camden Market, Belsize Park, and Hampstead if you want to.
