Shandur Polo Festival Chitral Starts On July 1
This year’s Shandur Polo Festival will take place after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. It will start on July 1.
Dr. Shahzad Khan Bangash, Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province, ordered the best arrangements for the festival.
He gave the instructions while chairing a review meeting on festival preparations at the Civilian Secretariat on Thursday.
The Ministry of Home Affairs, Tourism, Media, Communications and Commerce Executive Secretary, and KPK Culture and Tourism Director attended the meeting, as were Commissioner Malakand, District Police Officer, Deputy Commissioner, and District Police. Upper & Lower Chitral Officials participated in the meeting via video link.
The General Directorate of Polo KPCTA informed the meeting that the Shandur Festival will be held from July 1 to 3 this year after a two-year hiatus due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He said the tent village, built around the world’s highest polo field at an altitude of 12,600 feet, will provide accommodation and accommodation facilities for local and foreign tourists.
He added that local culture, including music from Chitral and performing arts from Gilgit-Baltistan, will be showcased, as well as booths set up.
