Travelling in India with Dean: Meet Our Dragons!

In January, Dean joined us on a spectacular trip travelling in India. We caught up with him to find out what his favourite parts of the tour were – and what he learnt about the amazing India along the way.

Why did you choose to visit India?

I chose to visit India because I have always had a lot of Indian friends in the UK, and was exposed to the culture at a surface level. I always liked the food, music, and friendly nature of the Indian people I came across. I am currently on a worldwide backpacking trip through Europe and South East Asia, making my way to Australia to work. I couldn’t skip India on my way east, as for me, this country was a must see.

What was your favourite thing that you learned about India during your trip?

To have patience and let go. The more you resist what’s happening around you, the harder life will become. Visiting India has helped me realise this, and assisted me in growing as a person.

What was the best experience you had while touring?

Meeting all the amazing people on the trip but experiencing some once in a lifetime things together. For example, going to an Indian wedding together in Jodphur was really cool, as well as seeing the Taj Mahal in our Kurtis (traditional Indian dress). Although, the best experience for me was taking a camel ride into the Jaisalmer desert and camping under the stars. Words cannot describe how beautiful it was.

Where was your favourite place to visit?

My favourite place was Jaisalmer because of the old forts, good food, and desert surroundings. It felt like I was in Aladdin, or on Tatooine in Star Wars!

What was the best food you ate?

How do I choose one? From the delicious street food to the incredible food you can find in restaurants… if I had to pick one it would be Biryani, Hyderabadi style. It’s a rice dish which can be veggie or non-veggie, and can be super spicy if you want it to be.

Do you have any top tips for travelling in India?

Definitely keep an open mind. India is a complete culture shock and can be difficult to travel in at times due to the weather, overcrowding and some cultural differences. Take it as it flows and never worry too much. India is a magical place!
