Holland America Line Highlights Unique West Coast Program – Cruise Industry News

Holland America Line has highlighted its unique 2023-2024 West Coast Program with departures from San Diego, California, among notable itineraries are two Solar Eclipse Cruises and a Baya & Sea of Cortez Voyage.

The two solar eclipse sailings feature Koningsdam and Zaandam in Mexico for total viewing during the April 8, 2024, eclipse. Additionally, there will be a special Mexico departure in December 2023 exploring ports in the Sea of Cortez, according to a press release.

“San Diego is an important homeport for Holland America Line, both from a drive-to market and for guests who fly in, and it’s important for us to be able to offer cruises to a variety of destinations,” said Beth Bodensteiner, chief commercial officer at Holland America Line.

“Our West Coast itineraries have been meticulously designed to showcase the best of each region, and we took extra time crafting the solar eclipse cruises so they are perfectly aligned to give our guests a total view. We expect them to book up quickly, so those who are interested shouldn’t delay.”

Open for booking, these cruises give travelers a chance to explore Mexico, Hawaii, the Pacific Coast and Panama Canal on six ships across 39 departures (roundtrips from San Diego).

Being the West Coast homeport for the cruise company since the 1990s, San Diego sailings are part of Holland America Line’s homeport initiative that allows travelers to set out on a cruise from their doorstep, without taking a flight.

The two solar eclipse cruises include:

  • Zaandam’s 14-day Solar Eclipse Cruise departing on March 30, 2024; the ship is at Mazatlán on April 8, giving guests a front-row seat.
  • Koningsdam’s 22-day Solar Eclipse Cruise, departing on April 5 and headed south to Cabo San Lucas before spending the day at sea on April 8 for the total eclipse.

The special Mexico departure is the 12-day Historic Baja and Sea of Cortez cruise departing on December 10, 2023. The journey follows in the footsteps of ports visited by author John Steinbeck and biologist Ed Ricketts in 1951, an expedition that resulted in two books.
