The Future Of Remote Work In 2023

Companies either kept allowing remote work, implemented a back-to-the-office policy, or started a hybrid work strategy after vaccinations became widely available and the number of Covid-19 cases leveled off.

Studies have shown that hybrid work can be beneficial, particularly for people who like interpersonal interactions and the buzz of the office. Back-to-the-office measures, meanwhile, encountered pushback as individuals grew accustomed to the advantages of working remotely.

Although working remotely is excellent, not everyone finds it an ideal work atmosphere. Remember, Millennials represented the largest group in the workforce in 2022 and tend to view “work” very differently than previous generations.

It’s safe to say that most Millennials want remote work to continue, and expectedly, they will not even consider a job if it does not offer remote work at all. This is because Millennials place a high value on a comfortable work environment, flexible hours, and an awareness of the importance of a good work-life balance.

How To Prepare For Remote Work

If companies have not already done so, they should prepare for an increase in remote workers. Otherwise, they risk losing ground to their competitors and missing out on talented young people.

Here’s what companies can do to prepare:

1. Establish a central data system

Find or create a solid, reliable central information system that allows all employees to create, upload and edit information documents. Dropbox is a fantastic example of this type of application.

2. Educate everyone on using the same communication system

This emphasizes the development of good team communication. Make sure everyone is familiar with it and can easily use the communication platform during the onboarding process. Slack, for example, is a useful communication tool for small to large companies.

3. Improve your job descriptions

Establish a set of requirements that applicants must meet when submitting applications or during interviews. If you have these, your team will likely always have a fantastic remote employee.

Bottom line

Remote employment is here to stay. Companies should either have already made changes to their workplaces or be getting ready to do so, as the demand for remote work is only expected to rise in the future.
