Ever since the pandemic introduced working from home, the demand for workers to work remotely versus going into an office has climbed. So much so that 65% of professionals have stated that working from home is their ideal work situation.
Due to this shift, companies are vying to entice workers with a fully or partially remote workplace to attract top talent. FlexJobs recently posted their study showing the top seven remote career categories of 2022.
Sorted from highest to lowest growth, the top growing careers for fully remote jobs are as follows.
- Nonprofit & Philanthropy
- Analyst
- Legal
- Medical & Health
- Communications
- Accounting & Finance
- Project Management

This contrasts with a report from LinkedIn which states that more employers are requiring their employees to return to the office.
The report broke down the top four economic sectors of remote job listings and they were
- Technology, information and media top the rankings, at 42%
- Professional services (28%)
- Education (25%)
- Administrative and support services (24%)
Their data shows that the labor market is cooling down for remote work after a peak in 2021. The posting of remote jobs is declining and only 1 out of 7 job postings in the US offered remote work in October 2022’.
Furthermore, remote offerings peaked in March 2022 with close to 20% of total job postings, and in November of 2022, it was just 14% jobs accepting remote applicants.
The labor market is in a state of flux as more and more countries are enticing digital nomads to live and work to boost the local economy. Throughout the world, countries have been introducing these visas, but some are easier to attain.
Those with less stringent requirements are Colombia, Ecuador, Hungary, Croatia and Costa Rica.
