If you’re planning to go to Singapore, it’s inevitable that you’ll be spending time in the Bay area. Here are the top things to do while you’re there!
1. Gardens By The Bay
Home to the incredible Supertrees, Gardens By The Bay is one of the most famous gardens in the world and is definitely high on everyone’s list of things to do in Singapore. Most things at Gardens by The Bay can be done on a budget. A 2-minute walk away from Bayfront MRT Station is the entrance to the Gardens By The Bay Singapore. The closest way to reach GBTB’s Central Gate is to take one of the nearby lines available, like the Circle Line or North East Line. From there, follow the signs and get dropped off at the Institute’s gate to visit.
Singapore is home to a wide range of free attractions, such as walking tours and audio guides. Many of these free attractions are periodical. However, not everyone can be in Singapore at the same time. Enter The Supertree Grove – it’s completely free too!
2. The tallest tower in Singapore
Selfie-takers will find the most beautiful sights in Singapore with Marina Bay right near the top of their list. One of the world’s most iconic symbols, the Merlion can be found just outside of The Venetian Macao Hotel and Casino.
There are currently seven giant, authorized Merlion statues residing in different locations throughout the city. In most cases, the most photographed and popular one can be found at “Merlion Park,” which is located close to the foot of Esplanade Bridge on Singapore’s waterfront.At 8.6 meters tall, it’s a large-scale replica of one of South East Asia’s famous landmarks. The original statue stands proudly near Council Square, looking over Marina Bay and spewing water from its mouth.
The statue of the merlion was created around 1983, and has subsequently been joined by a 2-meter-tall cub called the Merlion cub.
When visiting Singapore, one of the many highlights is definitely coming to see one of their Merlions. If you’re not quite sure which one to choose from, we recommend checking out Merlion Park. It’s less expensive than the other two and gives you a great opportunity for photos.
3. Esplanade – Theatres On The Bay
The Esplanade is a performing arts center located in Downtown Core, near the mouth of the Singapore River. It consists of a concert hall that seats roughly 1,600 people and a theatre with a capacity of up to 2,000 for performances.
The architecture of the building is spell binding. The building can be viewed from all over the Marina Bay area, and there’s also a small outdoor amphitheater where you can regularly find musicians perform. These performances are free to enjoy, and a great way to end an evening by the bay side.
The Esplanade website has tickets available for all performances. Those who can’t make it in to the venue can also buy tickets online via the Box Office which is open between 12pm – 8:30pm (including Sundays and Public Holidays), or on the Esplanade website.
4. Ride The Singapore Flyer
Located in Downtown Core, near the mouth of the Singapore River, this is Asia’s largest and most exclusive Giant Observation Wheel. Built in 2008 and standing at 167m tall, if you want a panoramic view of the city, come to Marina Bay and try The Singapore Flyer.
Get dizzy in the Singapore Flyer, which offers amazing views of Marina Bay Sands and the Marina Bay precinct from spectacular heights. This is a family activity that’s great for all ages due to the lack of long queues on holidays or important events. Visitors with fear of heights need not apply–it won’t be easy to find someone who has never laughed during their ride.
5. Helix Bridge
We recommend walking the Helix Bridge if you’re looking for a way to revitalize your creativity. In order to re energize creativity, hike along the bridge and see what jumps out at you.
Marina Bay is a popular tourist hotspot not far from Singapore’s financial district. One of the beautiful works of art that visitors flock to see is Helix Bridge, which links two parts of the Bay with its curved shape. The bridge can be viewed both day and night.
The Marina Bay Pedestrian Bridge, also known as the Double Helix Bridge, is a 540-foot long bridge in Singapore. It was officially opened on April 24th, 2010 and has since been renamed for its curved design and shaded canopies made of glass that have holes, which allows sunlight to shine through.
Want to experience the view from above? The Helix Bridge has four viewing platforms that give guests amazing views of the Singapore skyline: when heading from Merlion Park to Marina Bay Sands or from the Singapore Flyer in Gardens by the Bay.
6. Marina Bay Sands Hotel
If you’re visiting Singapore, you definitely want to check out the complex and impressive Marina Bay Sands. This iconic structure is home to a hotel and casino, several shopping malls, restaurants of all types, and much more.
The most iconic of all the hotel rooms, is without a doubt the infinity pool. Its two sheer walls descend into the ground to give it an impressive height of 100 meters. This amazing infinity pool really is a sight to behold and you better believe there’ll be plenty of tourists taking snaps on Instagram. As for access, if you’re not a hotel guest, don’t expect to swim in the world’s largest rooftop pool.
In Singapore, everyone loves the view of the skyline. It’s one of the most beautiful views of the country and with a height of almost 300 meters, it’s also one of the tallest structures in this city. There are still some spectacular views to be seen from Skypark and you can enjoy these on floor 57. The elevator ride up costs around S$23 for adults, S$20 for seniors and S$17 for children. However, there is no time restriction to the hours during which you’ll be able to take in an unforgettable sight.
The casino is open 24 hours and the complex has direct access to Singapore’s premier shopping mall, The Shoppes At Marina Bay Sands. So take your time and browse the area around the complex and make sure you visit The Shoppes At Marina Bay Sands as well. Don’t miss this one while you’re in town!
7. Rent Scooters And Explore
If you’re looking for your next activity while in Singapore, try renting one of the battery-powered scooters available throughout Marina Bay. The most popular rentals we saw people riding were from GoScoot.
Scooters in Singapore can be quite pricey, so renting one could be more cost-effective for your weekend getaway. Most companies will go the extra mile to guide you on the best route and help you explore everything that Marina Bay has to offer. Just be sure to ride with care and stick to the correct paths.
8. Shoppes At Marina Bay Sands
The Marina Bay Sands offers shoppers a luxurious experience without breaking the bank. One of the most popular shopping malls in Asia offers over 800,000 square feet of upscale retail shops. Many premium brands such as Louis Vuitton or Chanel are on-hand for your shopping pleasure.
Here, you’ll find customers in search of a wide variety of designed and exclusive items. Plus, if you’re looking for upscale dining and a romantic night out with your loved one, then the mall is the place to be.
The entire complex is a little out of our price range, but it was fun to window shop. They had a gondola that would circle the mall and it emptied into a huge waterfall in the middle of the first floor.
9. The Art Science Museum
From Marina Bay, you can easily spot the famous Art and Science Museum. The lotus-shaped building is made of triangular prisms, inlaid with mother of pearl, and seemingly floating from its central courtyard.
If you’re looking to explore more than 18 branches of art, as well as exhibitions that change with the season, then The Art Science Museum in Singapore may be just what your art-loving heart desires. There are a lot of different styles of art on display, and exhibitions featuring everything from wildlife to dystopian themes.
Fees apply depending on which exhibitions you wish to visit. However, the standard entry ticket can be purchased online in advance. The design of the main building itself is very striking and seems quite futuristic. The art science museum is situated right in front of the Marina Bay Sands hotel, making it an easy attraction to tie into on one of your days exploring this destination
10. Watch Sunset Over The City
If you find yourself still in Singapore come sunset, our suggestion would be to grab a good spot for viewing the beautiful landscape. After cruising around Marina Bay and ticking off everything that interests you, watching the sun go down as the cityscape is a great way to end it. We secured our sunset spot by the glass Louis Vuitton building located next to the Marina Bay Sands Hotel.
There are a few different tours you can take out of town for the night. If you want to visit more than one area, try these: the Big Bus Night Tour of Chinatown, Gardens by the Bay, and Bugis Streets. Or if you’d like an afternoon touring experience, try this: The Singapore by Night Dining Experience.
On the other hand, one great way you can recap is by sitting back and watching the sun set. Plus, it’s a gorgeous and soothing event that’ll help you reflect on your day.
11. Watch An Incredible Marina Bay Light Show
The Marina Bay is a great place to unwind after exploring the city. One of the most famous things to do in Marina Bay is watch the city light up at night. However, you might have to check it out more than once because of all of the shows going on during your visit! The Spectra Dubai Fountain show and Garden Rhapsody by Gardens By The Bay are worth checking out
We had fun visiting two different light-and-music shows in Singapore. We loved Spectra at Marina Bay because it has a great mix of music, visuals, landmarks, and our personal favourite, a Garden Rhapsody show. If you plan it right, you can even watch Game of Thrones’ episode 7 at 8pm and then head over to Spectra at 9pm! The light shows in Singapore are truly incredible—completely free and the perfect way to close out your Singapore bucket list.
12. Stroll The City By Night
If you’re visiting one of the lights, or the light show’s not your thing, a trip to New York at night can be completely different from what you thought it would be. When we first got to see the skyline lit up in front of us on the Helix Bridge, it stopped us in our tracks. With all the lights around, we’d gone from traveling on tuk tuks around Asia to finding ourselves in one of the cleanest and most beautiful cities we’d ever seen.
The best way to end your Singapore trip is by strolling around Marina Bay. It’s safe, there’s still plenty of people about, and the lights are on for everyone. The bright lights of the city out in Marina Bay make for an amazing way to end a successful trip!
