Carnival Celebration Christened in Miami

Following officially opening the refreshed Terminal F at PortMiami by cutting a ribbon with dignitaries, Carnival Celebration was christened in Miami last night by godmother Cassidy Gifford. After the blessing and the bottle breaking against the ship’s hull, a surprise throwback performance of “If You Could See Me Now” was performed by Kathie Lee Gifford.

Later today, the ship is leaving on its inaugural sold-out cruise with 1,500 kids on board.

Carnival Celebration will sail year-round from Miami, and is the second in the line’s Excel class, following Mardi Gras which debuted last summer.

Carnival Celebration Breaks On Board St. Jude Fundraising Record

Breaking records for a big cause. On its 14-night transatlantic cruise, Carnival Celebration raised over $60,000 for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, making the most money ever raised on a Carnival ship.

Cruise Director Lee Mason proposed the goal to nearly 5,000 guests on the sailing, and by the end of the sixth sea day the goal was raised. The previous record was $41,000 on Carnival Ecstasy’s final voyage last month.

Diamond Princess Resumes Passenger Service

The last Princess ship returned to cruising on Sunday as Diamond Princess embarked on her first sailing since the industry shutdown. Leaving out of San Diego, the vessel headed south to the Mexican Riviera.

From November to February, Diamond Princess will offer a series of itineraries ranging from five to 16 days, calling in ports along the California coast, Hawaii, and the Mexican Riviera.

Diamond Princess made headlines around the world in March 2020 when it was the first cruise ship with a major COVID-19 outbreak, and was a big black eye for the cruise industry for the following 15 months.

Diamond is the final Princess Cruises ship to return to service.
