MSC Seascape Starts Transatlantic Crossing Ahead of Maiden Season in the U.S. – Cruise Industry News

After being delivered to MSC Cruises last week, the MSC Seascape is starting its first voyage today.

Set to spend its inaugural season sailing from PortMiami, the new cruise ship is kicking off a transatlantic crossing to the United States.

Departing from Civitavecchia, Italy, the 17-night itinerary features visits to five different ports before arriving in New York City in early December.

The city will serve as scenario for the ship’s naming ceremony, which is set to take place on Dec. 7.

According to MSC, the star-studded event will bring the company’s European style and glamour to the Big Apple, with the award-winning actress Sophia Loren serving as the ship’s godmother.

On Dec. 11, the Seascape launches regular service from Miami, offering two different week-long itineraries to the Western and the Eastern Caribbean.

The first one sails to the Bahamas, Mexico, Jamaica and the Cayman Islands, with visits to Ocean Cay, Cozumel, George Town and Ocho Rios, while the second one features calls to Ocean Cay and Nassau in the Bahamas, San Juan in Puerto Rico, and Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic.

Closing out the four-ship Seaside Class, the MSC Seascape was built at the Fincantieri shipyard in Italy.

According to MSC, the 4,560-guest ship is ideal for Caribbean cruising and features a design “particularly well-suited” for the region’s warm and sunny weather.

In addition to nearly 13,000 square meters of outdoor spaces, the Seascape offers new features such as the Robotron.

An amusement ride that combines the experience of a rollercoaster at sea with personalized DJ music, the feature is debuting onboard the 169,380-ton ship.

The Seascape also offers expansive dining options that include five specialty restaurants and a 1,169-seat buffet, in addition to a selection of 20 bars and lounges.

Other comprise six swimming pools, 700 square meters of dedicated kids’ space and 2,270 guest cabins.
