Perfect outdoor gifts for kids: Scooters

Kids scooting at Little Winnick campsite

Scooters are a must-have for our girls who would much prefer swapping their feet for wheels when we are out exploring.

When we bought their first scooters we made sure we picked ones that were foldable, which makes them really easy to transport in the car boot for days out.

iScoot scooters

Tot’s first scooter was an iScoot X10*, which is a two-wheel, foldable scooter with brake.

iScoot x10, currently £42.99 on Amazon.

Baby has the iScoot Banne 3 Wheel Scooter*, which comes with funky light up front wheels and its more stable for younger children.

Banne 3 Wheel Scooter RRP £39.99

Microscooters

Both of our iScooters had plenty of use and lasted well. However, by last they’d both outgrown them. So we updated their wheels with Micro Scooters*.

They’re quite a bit more expensive but we know they’ll be used daily.

Micro Scooters, currently £115 on Amazon.

A year of nature craft and play* contains 52 fun activities following the seasons.

There’s crafts, gardening, games, art and science activities for children aged seven years and up that are budget-friendly and will entertain all year round.

‘A year of nature craft and play: 52 things to make and do’ RRP: £12.99 hardback / £7.99 Kindle. NB. You’ll find it cheaper on Amazon!

Wild Kids Firecraft Adventure Kit

Firecraft Box from Wild Kids

My girls do forest school once a week and they loved it. Particularly having a chance to toast marshmallows around a real campfire.

The Firecraft Box from Wild Kids is a fab outdoor gift for kids. It gives you all the kit you need to have the same fun using a fire pit or chiminea in your garden or while out adventuring.

The box contains a fire steel with a lovely hand turned wooden handle, pocket bellows and a Firecraft Kit. There’s also six challenges and skills to immerse you into the wonder of natural fire.

It’s also very nearly plastic-free. The only plastic I spotted was the reusable pocket bellows. Everything else, including the packing is environmentally-friendly.

Buy the Firecraft Adventure Kit and other bush craft boxes from Wild Kids.

Firecraft Adventure Kit RRP £35

Toast’d Marshmallow Toast ‘N’ Dip kit

Girls looking at marshmallow toasting kit

Another fun kit to buy the kids this Christmas is a Toast’d marshmallow toasting box.

They come with everything you need to make a sweet treat while on a day out or camping, including a non-toxic, odourless and smokeless gel burner, and sprinkles and chocolate for dipping.

Not only that, Toast’d’s kits are 100% plastic free. The box is recyclable and the packing film is a derivative of wood pulp, which means it’s totally biodegradable and home compostable. We love guilt free treats!

Original Marshmallow Toast ‘N’ Dip kit RRP £17

Walkie talkies – great for camping

Walkie talkies make great outdoor gifts for kids. We bought them for our girls to use when we go camping, but they also come in handy when they are playing outside with friends at home.

The girls love using them to chat and play games. And it’s reassuring for us that they have a way to get in touch with us if they are out of earshot.

These Motorola T42 2-Way Walkie Talkies* we’ve got work really well. They come in a pack of three and have a clip on the back so you can attach them to your kids’ clothing. They have a range of 4km and 16 channels – more than you’ll ever need.

Motorola T42 Walkie Talkies RRP £37.50. NB currently £34.50 on Amazon.

Changing robes – for all weather families

If you spend big chunks of time getting hands on with nature, whether that be in water or while camping, we can highly recommend getting a changing robe like a Dryrobe or Moon Wrap*.

Mr Tin Box and I bought our Dryrobes for using after paddle boarding. They are great for changing in at the beach or travelling home in without getting the car seats wet.

We’ve also used them as an extra snuggly and waterproof layer while sitting outside our camper. And they have even come in super useful on damp days at festivals as they are long enough to sit on and have deep, zip-able pockets for wallets, phones and tissues (in case the loos run out of toilet paper).

So, it’s high time we bought some changing robes for the kids too! They often sneak into ours if they are first out of the water at the beach.

Rather than getting them kids Dryrobes, which are just as expensive as the adult ones, we bought Moon Wraps*. They come with waterproof outer, fleece lining, three-quarter length sleeves to make changing easier, a zip up the front, a hood and zip pockets.

Check out our review of Moonwrap robes.

Moon Wraps RRP upto £89.99. NB. Currently £79 on Amazon.

Gardening tools

We spent a lot of time making over our garden during the early days of the pandemic and now have a trug and vegetable patch. The girls have loved getting involved in planting and harvesting lettuce, beans, tomatoes and strawberries.

Tin Box Grandma and Grandpa got them a set of gardening tools*. These come in super handy for their green fingered endeavours.

RHS Gardening tools RRP £40.99. NB. currently £29 on Amazon.

Hats and gloves – an outdoor essential

Hi-Gear hat and gloves

Here’s a great little stocking filler idea. Hats and gloves* are a staple for outdoor adventures.

Hi-Gear Kids’ Hat and Glove Set RRP £17. NB. currently £5 from Go Outdoors.

Wellington Boots

Joules kids wellington boots with dot and unicorn pattern

Will my girls’ feet ever stop growing?! Tot has gone up three sizes this year alone.

Wellington boots are an absolute essential for us. And with so many fun patterns available from Joules* and Regatta*, they can be a bright and cheery Christmas gift too.

Wellingtons RRP various
