MUSIC COLLAB | Showcasing New Southern Musicians and Bands

Southern musicians surprise every time with their incredible taste in lyrics, their fascinating musical accompaniment, and the dozens of different genres that can come out of every single city in the south.

If you want good music that’s not afraid to go back to its roots and give you a taste of something new, you’ll find it in these new southern musicians.

SOUTHERN MUSIC DOESN’T STOP SURPRISING

Before we get into the artists, it’s good to remember that every state and city has a vast music scene.  Rappers from Tennessee can sound wildly different from those just a state away.

The dialects and cultures in the south are extremely varied and divided from state to state and city to city, so although these four artists are all from the same area of the country with incredibly varied sounds, they’re unified in their creativity.

REGGIE, FROM HOUSTON

Reggie has a sound that instantly sparks a connection with the listener.  From his lyrical intelligence to his in-depth display of understanding rhythm and how to turn a phrase, every song he puts out feels like the start of something new.

Although he’s gone through a few different phases—with his music in the beginning feeling elementary compared to what he’s putting out now—his sound is still instantly recognizable.  If you’re new to his music, try Southside Fade, and you won’t be disappointed.

JONATHON LONG, FROM BATON ROUGE

If you’ve ever seen Johnathon Long perform, you’ll never forget it!  Although he doesn’t have the look many people assume for musicians at first blush, he’s charismatic and skilled enough that you won’t question him anymore after he starts singing.

His music has a touch of nostalgia and power, with meaningful lyrics ribboned through while his music plays somewhere between blues and country.  It’s an incredible sound and worth a listen!  If you want to try one of his songs, a fantastic one called Catfish Blues is both fun to listen to and an interesting way to see into his point of view.

MORRAY, FROM FAYETTEVILLE

Fayetteville, North Carolina, has let out stars before,  like J. Cole, but Murray is a new level for star power.  His album Street Sermons works to carry many themes, from the importance of understanding the people who brought you where you are, to wanting and needing more while feeling like your hard work is being taken advantage of.

His music is easy to connect with and is something that everyone should listen to at least once.  For that listen, pick up Quicksand, a song that came out in 2021 and is a journey through his life and what brought him to where he is today.

WHATEVER MUSIC INTERESTS YOU, THE SOUTH HAS IT

Although many may want to pigeonhole the south as only one type of person, there’s an extreme amount of diversity and flavors of music in this portion of the country. So whether you love rap, pop, or country, you’ll find it here in spades.  Please get to know these amazing artists, they’re all bound to amaze us in the upcoming years!
