Are You an Eco-Friendly Traveler?

Are you looking to travel and stay environmentally friendly at the same time? It’s not as difficult as you might think. Whether you are tackling outdoor adventures in Turkey or enjoying a staycation in your own city, there are plenty of ways to be an eco-friendly traveler while seeing the world! When you travel, you might not even notice how you’re hurting the environment. However, it’s easy and cost-effective to travel while staying green!

Use Eco-Friendly Transportation

Did you know that planes aren’t environmentally friendly? Thankfully, there are many other ways to get to your destination! If you’re going abroad, consider traveling by boat. Not a cruise ship, though: large ships pollute the environment and contribute to the climate crisis. A small boat might not be an option for you, so the next best thing you can do is make sure your chosen transportation is as environmentally conscious as it can be. For example, the smaller the plane, the better for the environment it is. If you have a choice, always go for the option that will help the environment the most!

Clean Up Wherever You Go

Littering is a major place in many places. Whenever you travel, take a few minutes out of your day to pick up some trash that you see. You don’t have to spend your entire day picking up trash. Even just a few pieces will help the environment! To do this, make sure you have gloves and a bag with you wherever you go. Picking up trash without gloves can be dangerous, so make sure you don’t take the risk. A great place to clean up trash is the beach or a park.

Get Rid of Single-Use Plastics

Single-use plastics contribute to a lot of the litter and pollution around the world. To avoid using single-use plastics, you can bring a water bottle on your trip with you. Many places sell reusable water bottles, so even if you didn’t bring one from home, you can always get one! Many planes will give you snacks in single-use plastic bags or drinks in single-use plastic cups. To avoid this, you can buy food and drinks after you pass through security and before you get on the plane. Opt for items in glass bottles and cardboard boxes to be more environmentally friendly.

Buy Local

Especially if you’re in a very tourist-oriented area, there will be many large resort hotels or chain restaurants and shops. If you can, support local shops and restaurants instead! This directly benefits the community you’re visiting. You can find local shops, restaurants, and attractions online, by asking the locals, or by searching online. You should also stay at a local resort. With this, you’ll be helping the environment and you’ll also have a more unique experience that will allow you to get to know and understand the places you visit. You will also challenge yourself by going out of your comfort zone!

Educate Yourself and Others

A great way to stay environmentally conscious while you travel is to make sure you are educated on ways to keep the environment safe. For example, if you’re going snorkeling, you should read about protecting the coral reefs. If you’re going hiking, make sure you look up what kinds of things to bring so that you don’t bring anything which is bad for the environment.

Most of all, don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the fact that you’re traveling while helping the environment!
