6 Reasons To Visit Sydney In Autumn

Sydney is widely regarded as one of the best cities in the world to visit, regardless of what time of the year it might be. The city itself has an incredible amount to offer visitors, with plenty of amazing restaurants, cafes and well-renowned accommodation options such as the Sofitel Darling Harbour to enjoy during your visit. In addition to its excellent accommodation, Sydney is also home to many world-famous, iconic sights such as the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, which visitors down under should experience at least once in their lives.

While the city itself is nothing short of spectacular, with plenty to offer everyone, the surrounding areas are also beautiful. For beach-goers, there are countless jaw-dropping beaches both within Sydney itself and across the city’s surrounding suburbs. There are world-class surf breaks, excellent coastal walks, and the beautiful Royal Botanical Gardens are always worth wandering through. Whether you want to dive in the surf, lay on the beach, take in the sights, wine and dine yourself, or simply shop til you drop, Sydney has it all. If you are planning to visit this iconic city, it’s important that you choose the right time to go to ensure you maximise your time in this captivating metropolis.

Let’s take a look at why autumn is the perfect time of year to visit Sydney and enjoy all that this epic travel destination has to offer.

Ideal Climate

Australia is well-known the world over for its attractive climate. However, while having plenty of blue skies and sunshine throughout your visit is important, the last thing you want to do is to arrive at the height of summer when the temperatures can often become unbearable. Autumn down under is from the beginning of March until the end of May and this is the perfect time of year to visit Sydney. You will still have cloud-free blue skies to get those perfect photos but the temperature will be much more pleasant. Coming after the heat of summer has passed and before the colder temperatures of winter arrive is perfect.

Getting Outdoors

In Autumn, it’s still warm enough to spend your days at the beach. In fact, there’s less rainfall in the autumn than at other times of the year, making it the ideal time for beachgoers to come and enjoy the city’s beaches and those in the surrounding areas. For those who enjoy hiking, walking or trekking, this is also a fantastic time of year to use Sydney as a base so you can get out into the Blue Mountains or onto some coastal trails. If your objective is to enjoy the outdoors, the Autumn months are a great time to be in Sydney.

Festival Seasons

During the autumn season, there are a number of different festivals that take place in Sydney that truly bring the city to life.

In the first few days of March, the yearly Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras take place. A spectacular parade makes its way through the streets of the city until it finally reaches Moore Park, where a party like no other kicks off.

Later in March, St, Patrick’s Day is celebrated in the city and with a large Irish contingent in the city, you can be sure that there will be plenty of celebrations taking place all over the city with live music, food stalls and, of course, the Sydney St. Patrick’s Day Parade all taking centre stage.

Anzac Day takes place on the 25th of April honouring those who served in the Australian military as well as all of the civilians who supported the armed forces. The day begins with a dawn service, leading onto the parade and finishing with an evening service at the Anzac War Memorial in Hyde Park.

Finally, at the end of May, the incredibly impressive Vivid Sydney Festival takes place. During this festival, interactive displays, music and laser lights put on a show like nothing you have ever seen. Projecting images, artwork and other exciting visuals onto the city’s most iconic buildings, including the world-famous Sydney Opera House, this show is best enjoyed from the water on one of the many Sydney Harbour cruises that are on offer.
