Myanmar Reopening – EXO Travel Blog

Summary of Myanmar reopening:

Myanmar is now officially open for travel. Vaccinated travellers need a vaccine certificate at least 14 days before arrival in Myanmar. Unvaccinated travellers or those unable to produce vaccine certificates will need a PCR test within 48 hours of arrival in Myanmar.

All visitors will need to purchase local health insurance beforehand here and take a rapid COVID test upon arrival. Once negative results from the test have been obtained, vaccinated guests are free to explore Myanmar while unvaccinated guests will undergo a 3-day quarantine and PCR test before being free to travel.

Please find further details regarding entry requirements below.

Steps for Travellers:

  • Pre-arrival:

    • Travellers should prepare the following documents:
      • Vaccine certificate: showing guests have been fully vaccinated at least 14 days before arrival in Myanmar.
      • PCR test (for unvaccinated travellers): Negative results from a PCR test issued no more than 48 hours before arrival in Myanmar.
      • Insurance: Local medical insurance through Myanma Insurance is required for all travellers and covers treatment in case of COVID-19 infection for up to $25,000 USD.
      • Copies: of the above documents should be made and presented to airline authorities before boarding their flight to Myanmar.
      • Visas: Myanmar’s e-Visa program is now back online. Visitors are able to apply online here.
      • Children: under 6 years of age are exempt from the PCR test and vaccination requirements.
  • Arrival:

    • Health screening: Upon arrival, guests will undergo a temperature scan and submit a health declaration form to airport health authorities.
    • Rapid Test: will be performed after checking in at immigration. Swabs will be taken at an airport swab counter and results will be given within one hour.

      • Vaccinated guests with negative results will then be free to explore Myanmar
      • Unvaccinated guests with negative results will then quarantine at a hotel for 3 days with a PCR test on day 3 before being free to explore Myanmar.
      • Unvaccinated and vaccinated guests with positive results will be isolated, transferred and treated in a designated hospital or treatment center or hotel.
  • During Stay:

    • Due to the current situation in Myanmar, some areas of Myanmar are either off limits to tourism or require special permission to visit. To see the list of controlled areas, go here. For travellers wishing to visit Myanmar now, we recommend only visiting established tourism centres including Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan and Inle and to avoid overland travel where possible by using flights.
    • Travellers should alert health authorities if they develop symptoms of COVID infection during their stay in Myanmar
    • Infected travellers will be taken to a medical facility or isolation hotel based on the severity of their symptoms.
