Wank Panoramaberg
The cable car up the top of the Zugspitze is expensive, but you can still get the same alpine views by taking the Wank Panoramaberg (yes – we know it’s a hilarious name for a mountain!). In just 20 minutes, you’ll be whisked to the top of the 1,780-meter mountain, where you can enjoy the pristine views and grab a bite to eat at the restaurant on top.
Hirschbichl
If you’re looking for an off-the-beaten-path destination – this is it. A short drive west of Berchtesgaden sits Hirschbichl. It can be a little complicated to find or get to (we had to park our car in Austria and walk back over the German border). However, the unspoiled views of mountains and forest made it worth it.
There’s an adorable farm here called Bindalm, which makes a great pit stop for drinks or a snack. The owners make their own cheeses, milk, and meats, so it’s a real farm-to-table experience.
