August Roster | The Dubai Diaries

I’ve just received my roster for August, and it almost feels like a normal roster! I’m so happy to be getting more flights again, as it means that there’s a sign of pre-pandemic life back on the horizon. It’s still definitely not completely back to normal though, as we continue to wear masks, gowns and gloves onboard. I’m eagerly awaiting the day that I can put my red lipstick back on, who would have thought!

Next month I’ll be heading off to:

  • CPT – Cape Town, South Africa
  • IST – Istanbul, Turkey (turnaround)
  • DMM – Dammam, Saudi Arabia (turnaround)
  • KBL – Kabul, Afghanistan (turnaround)
  • TUN – Tunis, Tunisia
  • GLA – Glasgow, Scotland

Cape Town is one of my all time favourite destinations in the world, so I really hope that I can actually enjoy it. At the moment flights to South Africa are quite restricted – nobody is allowed to enter UAE having been in South Africa in the past 14 days, so we don’t have any passengers on the return sector. We’re also not currently flying to Cape Town, and as of the moment it’s showing that we cannot leave the room on the layover there. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it might have changed by the time I’m there, and that I’ll be able to go out.

Following on from the flight are three turnarounds, Istanbul, Dammam, and Kabul. Istanbul is a super long day, as it’s around 4 hours each way, and the flight is through the night. Dammam is a bit shorter, roughly 1,5 hours and Kabul is around 3 hours each way.

Next up is a trip to Tunis – a new destination for me! I feel quite sad that I most likely won’t get to actually see much of the city, as it’s currently “red” for us – meaning we have to stay in the hotel room. Shame!

The last flight of the month is to Glasgow, again another layover which will most likely be spent in the hotel room unless the UK eases restrictions. Such a shame after having a couple of months of being allowed out and about to get shut back up in hotels again, but such is life. Of course I’m grateful to have a job that I love, and still be flying, but I’d really love to be able to start spending all of my layovers exploring again. I’ll never be spending the whole layover in my room again if I have a choice, that’s for sure!
